Schedule: This is a Full Time position requiring 40 hours per week

Position Summary



In collaboration with other management personnel in the laboratory matrix structure, develop and manage pre-analytic processes in the hospital laboratories, including specimen procurement, transport, processing and send outs. Develop and manage a set of corresponding metrics.



Minimum Education Requirements




  • Associate or Bachelor Degree w/MLT certification required;

  • Associate Degree with 5 years hospital laboratory leadership experience in lieu of MLT Certification



Minimum Experience Requirements




  • Experience with quality assurance, and laboratory regulations/accreditation requirements

  • Proven proficiency with the following is desirable:

  • Phlebotomy skills

  • Computer skills: (WORD, Excel, Access, PP) Analytic skills (data analysis) Communication skills at all levels (including business case development)

  • Problem solving skills

  • Conflict resolution skills Management with metrics and balanced scorecards

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Project management skills

  • Team facilitation skills

  • Six Sigma methodology

  • In depth knowledge of the following is required:

  • The standards, regulations and guidelines of CLIA, CAP, TJC, and CLSI in regard to test ordering and specimen management

  • Acute hospital organizations and the inter-relationships of various clinical and diagnostic services



License/Certifications




  • MLT certification (Please see Education Requirements)



Position Duties (essential functions denoted with an * )



Information Technology




  • Maintain an understanding of the lab LIS, HIS and outreach lab computer systems from a user and optimization standpoint.*

  • Maintain an understanding of the accuracy and source of data that enters the LIS, HIS and outreach lab systems (both electronic and manual entry).*

  • Liaison with Outreach Lab Services for optimization of processes and troubleshoot issues.*

  • Work directly with IT to improve processes and system changes.*



Process Management




  • Develop and operationalize pre-analytic policies and procedures.*

  • Establish policies and procedures necessary for site-specific preanalytic processes in conjunction with the Site Directors, Preanalytic Supervisors, and Technical Specialists.*

  • Ensure efficient daily operation of all pre-analytic sections including quality control and quality assurance.*

  • Ensure that pre-analytic process performance metrics meet internal goals and the expectations of the customers of various hospital services.*

  • Manage a relationship with the courier vendors service and associated performance metrics.*



Leadership




  • Ensure compliance with all rules, regulations, and guidelines of CLIA, CAP, TJC, CMS, etc).*

  • Use process improvement methodologies including six sigma methodologies in all management practices.*

  • Maintain a high level of proficiency and current knowledge of trends in phlebotomy, technology, and ways to deliver service in regards to laboratory medicine.*

  • Lead preanalytic teams to achieve set objectives.*



Customer Relationships




  • Represent Centura Laboratory Services in hospital and medical staff committee meetings as required.*

  • Consults with medical, nursing and administrative staff on a regular basis to coordinate and improve patient care as required.*

  • Handle and resolve customer complaints in a timely manner.*

  • Establish and maintain productive working relationships with other hospital divisions and medical staff.*



Finance




  • Optimize processes for inventory management mechanisms including contract compliance in pre-analytic areas.*

  • Review Lawson specimen collection supply spending reports at least monthly.*

  • Assist the Site Directors and Pre-analytic Supervisors in implementing action plans on any unfavorable spending trends.*

  • Collaborate with others on benchmarks for pre-analytic productivity.*



Strategy




  • Give input on annual site-specific operating plans that align with the goals of Centura Laboratory Services.*

  • Contribute to a set of scorecard metrics that give a balanced view of the labs performance.*



Physical Requirements




  • Sedentary Work - prolonged periods of sitting and exert/lift up to 10 lbs. force occasionally)
