POSITION SUMMARY



To provide quality patient care to all patients within the Neurodiagnostic Department. To perform high quality testing’s, institution/



department competencies, Neurodiagnostic Stands of Care, while maintaining sensitivity to patient needs, under indirect and direct



supervision.



EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS




  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Graduate of or Enrolled as a current student of a CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program)

  • Accredited END Program OR

  • Have a minimum Associates degree and two years END experience

  • Successful completion of Part I R. EEG T. ABRET ( American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential

  • Technologists) examination.



WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS




  • Two years of END (Electroneurodiagnostic) experience, at least 50% of which must be in a clinical setting

  • Entry level PC and Microsoft Windows knowledge.



LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS




  • Part I R EEG T. examination completion through ABRET ( American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologist)

  • Registry by the American Board of Electroneurodiagnostic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) in EEG or Evoked Potential (EP) or Polysomnography upon hire or within 2 years of attaining registry eligible status (hires prior to 12/1/12 are grandfathered).

  • BLS certified



POSITION DUTIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, INCLUDE % OF TIME)




  • Provides Quality Patient Care (70%)

  • Explains the test procedure to the patient and responds to their emotional needs, applying all recording, monitoring and stimulating

  • electrodes (per 10/20 International System), recognizing and eliminating artifact.

  • Continue to observe and is knowledgeable in correct EEG performance of clinical significant events and intervenes if appropriate.

  • Knowledge of infection control, current HIPPA practices

  • Continues to learn and apply basic and intermediate EEG waveform recognition, relevant medical terminology, anatomy, physiology.

  • Contraindications for activating procedures.

  • Patient assessment as related to care, such as electrode fixation, products, allergies, movement restrictions and cognitive function

  • Has knowledge of alternate montages, protocols, and alternate equipment settings and the effects that should be applied.

  • Drug and physiological studies effect on activity monitored must be recognized

  • Assists in arranging patient transport.

  • Assists with set up of LTME/ICU/cEEG, under direct supervision

  • Maintains Environment of Care (10%)

  • Maintains the patient’s safety through communication to other patient care support staff during testing if needed.

  • Understand and follows concepts of digital equipment and electrical safety within all areas of EEG unit.

  • Maintains clean work area/equipment for employees and patients.

  • Stocks supplies and laundry.

  • Maintains Complete Records (10%)

  • Adept in the use of Meditech for patient information, orders and changes.

  • Notifies and documents need for equipment repair and servicing

  • Assists, per Coordinator, with quality care/assurance program

  • Familiar with protocols for technical EEG report and patient files.

  • Demonstrates Professional and Sound Critical Thinking(10%)

  • Has knowledge of hospital policy and procedures , and for correction of questionable requests relative for Neurodiagnostic testing

  • Communicates appropriately and effectively with the patient, families, as well as higher level personnel, physicians and hospital staff.

  • Obtains quality studies from difficult patients.
