Position Summary

Coordinates medical staff and health professional management to include governance, credentialing, privileging and department business. Responsible for supporting regulatory readiness. Provides education and on-boarding to providers.

Minimum Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree preferred

Minimum Experience Requirements

  • Two years credentialing/medical staff related experience or degree in Medical Staff Services Management in lieu of experience

  • Knowledge of clinical/medical terminology

  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite and database management

  • Problem solving, analytical skills, creativity, effective oral and written communication and presentation skills; strong interpersonal, negotiation skills required.


  • CPMSM or CPCS certification, preferred

Position Duties (essential functions denoted with an * )

  • Compile and authenticate Medical Staff, Allied Health Professional Clinical Assistants, and Student applications and waiver requests in compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. This includes, but is not limited to, the primary source verification of information, collection and analysis of information received, and pursuit of additional information as necessary.*

  • Analyze essential data within the applications and all additional relevant documentation/information to ensure compliance with all federal and state regulatory requirements, Medical Staff Bylaws and affiliated documents, and TJC standards for initial appointment, reappointment or miscellaneous requests staff membership and clinical privileges in an independent, efficient, and timely manner.*

  • Educate and then serve as the technical assistant to volunteer physician leadership in their evaluation of the current clinical competence of applicants and appropriateness of credentialing requests, document review, privilege form review, and TJC preparedness.*

  • Serve as the technical resource regarding accreditation standards, bylaws documents, and policies and procedures governing the medical staff.*

  • Assess currency, research and develop appropriate privileging criteria to ensure regulatory compliance and risk mitigation.*

  • Responsible for the integration of services between the Medical Staff Department and the Central Verification Office.*

  • Ensure that all information, including but not limited to licensure, certifications, and professional liability insurance for practitioners meets hospital requirements, and is current and accurate.*

  • Prioritize multiple department tasks and projects to ensure they are completed in the required timeframes. Ability to deal with multiple tasks and interruptions with minimal supervision.*

  • Promote a team environment, willing to assist others, and responds timely to physicians, hospital staff and various external entities.*

  • Direct, educate and motivate physician leaders to accomplish their assigned tasks either with matters of significance to department business or in support of the credentialing program.*

  • Responsible for meeting management, to include agenda development, appropriate documentation and follow-up on key issues.*

  • Serve as the technical expert for the credentialing software program, to include database management and generating reports for both internal and external sources.*

  • Triage patient and physician satisfaction concerns in a timely manner, assuring they have been thoroughly addressed.*

  • Communicate with physician applicants and appointees, Medical Staff leaders, Executive Staff, Legal and Regulatory Staffs, and numerous external entities regarding demographic and competency information about Centura practitioners.*

  • Responsible for protection of highly confidential and sensitive information including peer review and HIPAA protected information.*

  • Establish productive relationships with various stakeholders to ensure compliance and effective systems.*
