Schedule: Full-Time. Mon-Thurs

Shift: Evening


Oversees admission, discharges, throughput, care quality and most shift operational activities. Supervises nursing service activities in patient unit for the duration of one shift and/or in the absence of the manager. Provides professional nursing care for patients as needed. Assesses

plans, evaluates, and documents the nursing process as needed. Responsible for ensuring patient care is delivered in accordance with quality standards on the shift. May be responsible for scheduling staff. Effectively recommends performance evaluations on staff to department

manager. Has decision making authority for assigned shifts.


  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

  • BSN preferred


  • 3 years of related department experience

  • Leadership skills

  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills


  • Current Colorado Nursing License

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association

  • ACLS Preferred



  • Directs, organizes and prioritizes all shift activities ensuring needs are met for patients, physicians and staff.

  • Demonstrates interdepartmental cooperation by partnering within and across teams while ensuring safe patient care.

  • Problem solves immediate issues that may negatively impact patient care by anticipatory planning and generating solutions.

  • Participates in hospital/departmental meetings and committees.

  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge of evidence based practice which supports the provision of quality patient care safety.

  • Participates in ongoing learning opportunities to enhance both leadership and clinical skills.

  • Manages staffing to meet department budget while delivering quality care and demonstrates understanding of fiscal accountability.

  • Participates in community-based activities.


  • Assists in staff selection, orientation, development and retention.

  • Values diversity and builds on associates strengths.

  • Understands and effectively manages personal limitations in order to be a positive role model.

  • Coaches associates regarding work performance on a daily basis, and provides input for employee’s evaluations, and provides prompt feedback to manager as appropriate.

  • Acts as a resource and support to staff with changes in department, system policy and procedures.

  • Demonstrates pride and passion, inspires loyalty and trust for job by keeping commitments, respecting standards and ensuring staff is held accountable to those standards.


  • Acts as liaison with physicians, patients, and nursing staff when problems occur.

  • Anticipates and adapts to rapidly changing environment, patient priorities, technologies, policies, regulations and staffing through priority setting and flexibility.

  • Coaches associates on problem-solving and critical thinking.
